Studio49 Assumption of Risk Policy
As a parent/guardian or participant, by reading below, you acknowledge and assume the following risks associated with participation in activities at Studio49. These risks, while not exhaustive, are inherent to the nature of the activities provided and cannot be eliminated entirely. It is important that you understand these risks before giving consent for your or your child’s participation.
1. General Risks of Participation in Art Activities
Physical Injury: Risks of minor cuts, abrasions, and bruises from handling tools and materials (e.g., scissors, knives, paint brushes, ceramics tools).
Inhalation of Fumes: Potential exposure to fumes from paints, glues, solvents, and other chemicals used in art-making processes.
Slips, Trips, and Falls: The risk of slipping or tripping due to uneven surfaces, spilled materials, or movement around the studio.
Burns and Scalds: Possible exposure to hot surfaces or materials, such as heat guns, hot glue guns, or heated wax.
2. Risks Specific to Art Materials and Tools
Sharp Tools and Equipment: Exposure to risks associated with the use of cutting tools, such as knives, scissors, and needles, which may cause cuts or puncture wounds.
Heavy Equipment: Handling or working near heavy equipment such as sewing machines, pottery wheels, large easels, or industrial tools (e.g., drills, saws) may cause injury if misused.
Chemical Exposure: The risk of skin irritation, respiratory issues, or allergic reactions from certain paints, inks, adhesives, and solvents used in the studio.
Wet Materials: Exposure to risks from wet materials like clay, plaster, or paint, which can cause slipping, stains, or allergic reactions.
3. Risks from Studio Environment
Crowded or Confined Spaces: Risks associated with navigating around a crowded studio space, which may lead to bumps, falls, or injury from shared equipment.
Noise: Potential exposure to loud noises from power tools, machinery, or group activities that could cause hearing damage if protective gear is not worn.
Dust & Particulate Matter: The risk of inhaling dust from materials like clay, chalk, charcoal, or other particulate matter generated during artistic activities.
4. Emotional & Psychological Risks
Frustration & Stress: Some activities may cause frustration, especially when trying to achieve desired results, potentially leading to stress or emotional discomfort. Studio Facilitators are trained in managing these situations and will do their best to remedy.
Criticism or Disappointment: Participation in group critiques or collaborative projects may expose the participant to potential discomfort or disappointment based on feedback from others.\
5. Behavioral Expectations
Misuse of Equipment or Materials: Risks may arise if participants do not follow studio rules, proper procedures, or guidance from instructors when using tools, materials, or equipment.
Injury Due to Reckless Behavior: Participants who engage in reckless, inattentive, or improper behavior may put themselves at increased risk of injury.
Acknowledgment of Understanding and Assumption of Risk
By reading the information above, I confirm that I have reviewed the list of potential risks and I understand the inherent dangers involved in participating in Studio49 activities. I acknowledge that these risks may not be completely eliminated, and I am voluntarily allowing myself or my child to participate in these activities with full awareness of the potential risks.
